HPP Subject Matter Experts: Community Voice

This series is built upon the collective expertise of a diverse, multidisciplinary team. We believe that Community Voice is the most important part of this work, serving as the essential foundation for every clinical pathway and resource we provide.

Please see our SME expert bios below to learn more about the contributors behind this series.

    • Clinical & Mental Health: Specialized insights from pediatricians, therapists, and mental health providers who navigate diagnostic pathways and treatment.

    • Community Support & Advocacy: Guidance from Doulas and Community Resource Navigators who provide hands-on support and bridge the gap between families and clinical care.

    • Systems & Community Partners: Vital contributions from Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to ensure care is systemic and sustainable.

BeMomAware Founders:Brenna Rizan and Jessica Walker lead this collaborative effort, ensuring every session remains centered on the authentic needs of the Sacramento community.

  • Integrating the voices of those with lived experience and community leaders was a primary focus of this project because:

    • It Humanizes Care: It moves the conversation beyond clinical data to the real-world experiences of "dark thinking," fear, and the struggle for recovery.

    • It Builds Trust: Highlighting Doulas and CBOs shows how to create a safer, more accessible environment for families who may be hesitant to seek traditional help.

It Ensures Equity: By centering the community, we ensure that the care pathways developed are culturally responsive and inclusive of all birthing people.

  • From startups to seasoned brands, we partner with people who care about doing things right—and doing them well.

A Special Thank You
